Meet the Instructor
Meet Lindsey
Lindsey Young began her post-college life as a high school teacher, instructing students in everything from English to public speaking to journalism.
Soon, when she and her husband purchased their first community newspaper, she added another skillset of professional journalist to her repertoire.
Today, Lindsey works full time as a part owner of Kansas Publishing Ventures, which owns three community weekly newspapers in south central Kansas.
She has a passion for community journalism and education, which led to the creation of the Press Pass course.
Associate’s Degree
Lindsey earned her associate of arts degree at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kan., in 2004. She was editor of the college’s newspaper during her sophomore year.
Bachelor’s Degree
Lindsey graduated with honors from Bethel College in North Newton, Kan., in 2007 with a bachelor of arts in communications as well as a certification to teach speech/theatre. She later added certifications in English and journalism. At Bethel, she spent her junior year as the layout editor and senior year as co-editor of the school paper.
Professional Experience
Lindsey and her husband, Joey, are majority owners of Kansas Publishing Ventures. They own three community Kansas weeklies: Harvey County Now, the Hillsboro Free Press and The Clarion. Lindsey is the primary copy editor for the company, along with being the business manager, print consultant and helping with other odd jobs in the newsroom. She also writes a weekly cooking column that runs in all three newspapers as well as several others around the state.
Lindsey has a passion for public speaking. She and husband/co-publisher/partner in crime Joey have been honored to speak at several press association conventions across the United States.
They like to take a practical approach to their presentations, using their own experiences as publishers to share ideas on content, training and even revenue. For information on having the Youngs speak at your next event, please send us a message through the contact page.
Over the years, Lindsey has spoken at various other events, from the Kansas Collegiate Press Association conference to classroom talks and even an appearance at a People of Kansas event at the Kansas State Fair. Below are a few videos from some of her speaking events.
